I’ve had the honor of photographing weddings of all shapes and sizes all around the world. Intimate weddings with a few of your closest family and friends, large super-glamorous weddings, and everything in between. Some of my clients are completely skeptical of everything traditional, while others love incorporating religious, cultural, or familial customs into their weddings. But each and every one of them has had a few things in common: their love of family, their love for their new life partner, and their love of beauty. These loves drive them to create a day that is completely unique to them.

Why weddings?

Put simply, I believe in love.

Though I was always a skeptical, doubtful person, somehow love was immune to my questions. Its power was always undeniable to me: power to heal, inspire, improve.

A lifelong commitment to another person is one of the most brave, inspiring, courageous, and joyful events in a person’s life. It’s a beautiful and rare thing to celebrate such a choice with your closest friends and family all in one place.

There is nothing like a wedding.

Featured Wedding: Hollin + Russell

Hollin married Russell in the same church where her grandparents were married in Kalymnos, Greece. Their intimate wedding was among the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

This really feels like the first week of 2018. Even though I worked last week, my husband was still on his break, so it felt like the vacation was still going.

My husband shared this quote with me the other day, and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

It’s easy to think that art is the frosting of life. Especially in our culture, it’s often deprioritized. .
But I think art and creativity is unavoidable. In every city, there’s architecture, there are statues – even graffiti and street art. .

Oh man. You guys. I’ve had some technology ISSUES. I left my laptop power adapter in Ohio 😵 .
Plus, I left my phone in my friend’s car. OK these are “Melissa problems” – not “technology problems” 😜 .
But tonight I was able to use my laptop again and FINALLY dig into these photos from Wednesday’s shoot. And I am SO excited to share. .

Let’s be real for a minute, ok? From movies and books and TV shows, it seems like once you get that ring on your finger, happily ever after begins. But that’s not exactly true, is it?

Weddings are not easy to plan, and the stress of planning can outweigh the joy of finding “the one” sometimes.

I remember one of the things that drove me crazy when I planned my wedding was the lists: “Centerpieces for Whimsical Romantic Weddings” “Perfect Bridesmaid Dresses for the Modern Bride.” And on and on.
.
But I had no idea what kind of bride I was!
