Shoot & Share Contest Results

I’ve had so much fun entering contests and competitions lately! I think they’re a great way to re-calibrate. It can be easy to get tunnel vision sometimes – take the same shots, look at the same Pinterest boards, whatever.

Hollin's dress - made it to the final round! Hollin’s dress – made it to the final round! Not one, but TWO photos from Hollin and Russell's destination Greek wedding scored in the top 30% or above! But competitions give you a new perspective. There are a few things that are especially cool about the Shoot and Share contest I’m writing about today!

1.       It’s votes only. No judges, nothing. Just anonymous votes.

2.       You get a breakdown of how every photo did in the contest – which of the 12 rounds was its last, exactly where it placed, and how many times it was marked as someone’s favorite.

3.       You get to submit up to 50 photos, which allows for a pretty big selection of work!

Submitted this “Wanderlust” photo just for fun…and it ended up scoring in the top 30%! Who woulda thought?

This was an eye-opening experience to say the least.  Over 330,000 photos were submitted to 25 categories from all over the world.

I had one photo eliminated the first round. It was in the bottom 8% of its category. This is a photo I love, and one I know my clients loved, too!

On the other end of the spectrum, one of my photos scored 45th in its category out of nearly 14,000 submissions. That’s the top .3%.

My highest scoring photo - 45th place out of nearly 14,000! Shot at the gorgeous Brown Palace. My highest scoring photo – 45th place out of nearly 14,000! Shot at the gorgeous Brown Palace. Another high scorer and one of my favorite images ever! Another high scorer and one of my favorite images ever!

I’m looking forward to entering again next year, but what I’m REALLY excited about is all the amazing weddings and families I’ll be photographing in 2017. Every single one of my clients is someone I’m looking forward to getting to know better, to best understand what their photographs mean to them.

THANK YOU to my amazing clients and friends who have trusted me with photographing you and your loved ones! 😃

Loved how that ace of spades was flying towards me at this Spruce Mountain Ranch Wedding. Loved how that ace of spades was flying towards me at this Spruce Mountain Ranch Wedding.
